MATHEMATICSChapter: Data Handling Raw Data, Primary, and Secondary Data were explained with the help of Google search bars. How the data needs to be organized in a systematic way of presentation, such as Pictograph, Bar graph, Double Bar graph, Frequency, Pie chart, was discussed in class. Exercise questions related to these topics were taught in class. Integrated with ICT: The students were asked to use their UT I marks with the help of an ICT tool to make a bar graph. The Pie chart was explained with the help of their own schedule time for various activities using an Excel Sheet. Chance and Probability: Getting a result from a Random Experiment, Equally likely outcomes, Linking chances to probability, Outcomes as events, Chance and probability related to real life were explained in class. Probability of a deck of cards, die, and coins were explained as extra questions. Chapter: Introduction to Graph The chapter was introduced with the help of a distance-time graph. [Integrated with Physics]. How to plot the points on the graph sheet was explained. NCERT questions were discussed in class. ENGLISHLiterature: The poem 'The Last Bargain' was read aloud and discussed in class. Students analysed the poem and understood the essence of the poem. They appreciated the poet's emphasis on freedom and the representation of purity and innocence through child's play. The journey to grow up as responsible citizens continued with the chapter Role of the Parliament. The chapter was introduced by sharing a video on the Lok Sabha session of the Parliament. The reasons for India adopting a parliamentary form of government were discussed. The students were excited to learn about the composition of the Parliament. They gained insights into the powers of the President and the Prime Minister as well as the functions of the council of ministers. An activity-based study of this integral aspect of governance helped students comprehend the reasons behind its establishment and the multifaceted roles it plays in shaping the destiny of nations. GEOGRAPHY In the continuation of the chapter, students identified various types of flora and fauna on Earth, delving into the concepts of biomes and ecosystems, and discovering the unique features that define different natural vegetation belts across the world. They began by understanding what biomes are. Biomes are large geographical areas characterized by distinct climates, vegetation, and wildlife. Think of them as nature's neighborhoods, each with its own set of plant and animal residents. An ecosystem, on the other hand, is like a tiny community within a biome. It includes all living organisms (flora and fauna) in an area, along with their non-living surroundings like air, soil, water, and sunlight. Ecosystems can be found within biomes, and they work together to create the breathtaking landscapes and environments we see on our planet. They explored various types of ecosystems and their unique features. Forests: Equatorial Forest: These lush and dense forests are found near the equator and are home to an incredible diversity of plant and animal species. Deciduous Forest: These forests experience four distinct seasons and are known for their leaf-shedding trees, which adapt to changing temperatures. Temperate Deciduous Forest, Mediterranean Forest, and Temperate Coniferous Forest: These forests are found in regions with milder climates and unique types of trees and plants. Grasslands: Tropical Grasslands: Often referred to as savannas, these grasslands are characterized by tall grasses, scattered trees, and a variety of grazing animals. Temperate Grasslands: Found in regions with cold winters and warm summers, temperate grasslands are home to short grasses and prairie wildlife. Other Unique Vegetation: Mountains: Explored how vegetation changes with altitude, from lush forests at the base to hardy alpine plants at high altitudes. Deserts: Discovered the remarkable adaptations of desert plants and animals that thrive in arid environments. Map Activity: Now, it's time for some hands-on learning. They did a map activity where each of you will color a map according to the vegetation types we've discussed today. This will help you visualize the distribution of these ecosystems across the world and understand how they contribute to Earth's incredible biodiversity. The topic began by challenging their intuitive understanding: Do liquids exert pressure? As they pondered scenarios like pressure exerted by water at the bottom of the container depending on the height of its column and liquids exerting equal pressure at the same depth. The concept of ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE, a cornerstone of the chapter, was explained to the students. By engaging in lab activities based on atmospheric pressure, the students had a better understanding of the concept. The chapter thus equipped them with a deeper appreciation of the intricate interplay between atmospheric pressure governing our physical world. Further, the topic “Extraction and Refining of Petroleum” was discussed with them with the help of an informative video. They designed a poster [Art Integration]on the Conversation of Fossil Fuels and Energy Crisis depicting the limitations of burning fossil fuels and ways to conserve natural resources. They also discussed the various ways to prevent energy crises by the integration of SDG -7 [Affordable and Clean Energy] in their lesson. Chapter end Exercise questions were also discussed in the class. They were also assessed on the same on the basis of completing a worksheet in the class. https://www.mapsofindia.com/maps/minerals/coal-mines-map.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fRjZhvC40E BIOLOGY Chapter - Conservation of Plants and Animals: The basic ecological terms like biodiversity, species, habitat, flora, and fauna were discussed and explained to the students. The class participated in a Think-Pair-Share activity to discuss the importance of biodiversity [SDG 12 - Sustainable Consumption and Production]. The students also created concept maps on the causes of the loss of biodiversity [Art Integration]. Students learned about different ways of conserving biodiversity through an interactive video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3aRQNPi68M Students were given a fun task to design and draw a stamp featuring any one threatened animal and display it in class [Art Integration]. All the students participated enthusiastically in this activity. Students learned about the different protected areas earmarked for the conservation of forests and wildlife. They then analyzed the differences between a Wildlife Sanctuary, Biosphere Reserve, and National Parks. Chapter exercises and question-answers were discussed to assess the understanding of the students. Recapitulation of chapter concepts was done through Quizizz and Google Forms Assessment [IT Integration]. A class test was also conducted to prepare the students for the Half-Yearly Examinations.
