MATHEMATICSThe students were introduced to the topic through small introduction activity of their date of birth. The number ends with 2,3,7, 8 and odd number of zeroes. The pattern of numbers were explained with the help of NCERT questions. The square of number were discussed through diagonal method of multiplication. Square and square roots: With the practice and prior knowledge of factorization, students understood the meaning of a square of a number. Students also practiced the following concepts Representation of square number as the sum of the consecutive odd number To find the number of the natural number between the square of two consecutive natural numbers. Properties of square numbers. Finding the unit digit of a square of a number. Finding the square root of a number using the subtraction method (ONLY consecutive odd numbers). Finding the square root of a number using the prime factorization method. Finding the square root of a number using the long division method. Finding out the least number to add/subtract/multiply/divide to convert in a perfect square. Finding the square root of decimal numbers. Cube and Cube Roots: Using the prior knowledge of multiplication and Prime factorization, students understood the significance of the Cube of a number and listed the unit digit of cubes of numbers. Cube root of the given number was explained using Prime factorisation and Estimation method. SCIENCEPhysics : Chapter- Force and Pressure Force and its types Some students were called in front to perform small tasks such as opening and closing of door, moving a stationary object and stopping a moving object, putting obstacles in path to change the direction of a moving object and stretching an elastic rubber etc to understand the concept of force and its effects. With the help of the above activities, students understood the significance of contact forces and differentiated between different types like : Muscular force, mechanical force etc and listed their significance and real life applications. Student were asked to throw a pencil in the air and catch it back to observe the presence of a non - contact force called gravitational force and based on the observation, students understood the physical significance of the gravitational force. Student were asked to rub a scale against dry hair and bring it near the bits of paper and observe the attraction of bits of paper towards the scale to observe the presence of a non - contact force called electrostatic force and based on the observation students understood the physical significance of the electrostatic force. In similar manner, students discussed the significance of magnetic force. Pressure Two students were asked to put two different pins on the soft board in different manner whereas other students made their observation and discussed why the student with the sharp end of pin was able to put it easily as compared to other students whose pin was blunt. With the observation from the above activity, students understood about the physical significance , the pressure applied , the formula of pressure and how pressure depends on force and area of contact. Chemistry : The learners started their lessons by identifying the natural and synthetic fibres from the images shown to them. They explored more about them by identifying the names of synthetic fibres of their toothbrush bristles, socks and handkerchief. They were able to compare and contrast synthetic and natural fibres and analyze the benefits of synthetic fibres over natural fibres. They compared the water-absorbing capacity and strength of cotton and nylon socks by dipping cotton and socks/handkerchief in water. They are also connected with the examples of every day products used in our lives to apply their understanding of synthetic fibres. They also learnt the processing of Rayon fibre from cotton/ wood pulp with the help of video tutorials. The students further enhanced their knowledge on synthetic fibres and plastics where they learnt different types of plastics by doing hands on activity. They dipped a part of plastic bottle and a shampoo bottle in mild hot water to observe the effect of heat and compare the characteristics of thermosetting and thermoplastics. They were connected with SDG-15 Life on Land where they discussed the harmful effects of using plastics and plastic pollution. They were able to compare and contrast the older and modern tools and analyze the benefits of the latter. They enhanced their knowledge about how each step followed in agriculture helps in providing a better yield. Through various videos they learnt how the modern tools work in ploughing and levelling of soil, sowing of seeds and irrigating the fields by using less effort and resources. They learnt how farmers can use natural methods for replenishing the soil and why sometimes fertilizers are also important to be added to the soil. They researched how eating the vegetables from such farms could affect our health and presented their paper on Organic Farming. and its importance. Students also did a Class Discussion and an Activity on White Revolution to understand how it enhanced the production of milk and boosted the productivity of the dairy industry. The chapter Microorganisms - Friends and Foe was introduced with an activity. Students identified the different parts of the microscope and labelled the diagram in their notebook. SOCIAL STUDIESHistory & Civics : The history lesson started with a discussion on "Why learning history is important". The students gained knowledge about the periodization of history. They prepared a timeline of modern history and also understood the various political developments in the Modern period. The various sources of modern history were explained through a video. An oral assessment of the chapter When, Where, and How was conducted. The civics chapter Indian Constitution was introduced with an activity to 'compare Democratic government and Monarchy'. The students developed an understanding of 'The Constitution . They were asked to decode the Preamble which is the first part of our constitution. Discussion on Fundamental rights and their importance. The features of the constitution were explained with a flow chart. The students were asked to collect some amazing facts about our constitution. Salt satyagraha, Dowry Prohibition Act, and the Anti-liquor campaign were discussed and explained through videos and pictures. Roleplay on various colonial powers was conducted by students. They learned about the rivalries and wars among the trading companies through videos and pictures. The three Carnatic wars, Battle of Plassey and Battle of Buxar was discussed. The students gained knowledge on the Subsidiary alliance through a video. They prepared a timeline of various events in Modern history. The students were divided into teams and were asked to prepare charts on the topics covered. Map work was discussed in class, various Portuguese, French and English settlements, and the places where the subsidiary alliance was introduced. A mind map was made on the white board explaining and categorizing the different types of resources and their usage . Questions were asked to understand the importance of land in our life as a resource. Students made a list of all the things obtained from the land .A mind map was made and discussed with the students to understand the important factors governing the uses of land. Students discussed and shared the problems and limitations of usage of land as a resource. ICT“Photography is the beauty of life captured.” The students , in ICT classes learnt Photoshop in theory and Photopea in practical. They learnt different features of Photoshop like selection, cropping, combining the images, blur effect, different color options, retouching tools for removing spot and stains. They learnt Photoshop tools by recognising different tools and they also discussed the used of these tools. ENGLISHThe class began with a reminder of not to resist the thoughts and emotions passing through one’s mind but to meet them with courage, warmth and respect . The students understood about such unwelcomed guests in the guest house of our mind. The poem was further extended to the discussion of the core meaning, underlying theme, tone and mood of the poem. The concept of sentences and clauses was further taken up to understand the types of sentences, question tags, the main and the subordinate clauses and primarily their application. Revision exercises were given to the students. The students enjoyed attempting quizzes (Forms) to strengthen their grammar concepts. The class also got engaged in a discussion about Christmas and its relevance in the current times. The hilarious read ‘Dusk’ enthralled the students. They focused on attempting ‘Reference to Context’ questions in this chapter. Informal letters were started with a situation based discussion in the class wherein the students were able to compare and contrast the features of formal and informal letters. Eliciting responses while reading the PPT about the types of letters was another interesting way to get their attention. The students not only shared their prior knowledge, relevance and application of letters in the current scenario but also minutely observed a sample to deduce the format of the letters- both Formal and Informal. The practice questions attempted by the students helped them to work upon their style of writing and structure it. Revision of basic grammar was conducted in class. The students learnt about places of interest in Spain and expressions of weather.The class learnt verbs related to the topic Holidays. GERMANThe new academic session started with students introducing themselves in German using the phrases and vocabulary already learned. They were then introduced to the vocabulary on parts of the body and their singular and plural forms and a short text describing one's wellbeing. After a quick revision of indefinite articles (accusative case) students learned to name common ailments and remedies and the verb "weh tun". and "fehlen" They further got to know about the personal pronouns in dative case and practiced short dialogues using dative verbs "weh tun" and "fehlen" and dative personal pronouns. They also came across the accusative and dative interrogative pronoun "Wen? (Whom?)" and "Wem? (Whom?)". This academic year began with new hopes and a positive mindset in order to make it a bright chapter for students life. WESTERN DANCE : "When you dance , your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor; it's to enjoy each step along the way." The session began with a new dance style- JAZZ. It's a good exercise for mind and body coordination, it also improves the body posture. DRAMAStudents understood monologue, voice modulation, how to create pointer to remember dialogues. They also learnt how to coordinate with co-actors. They were made aware of clue and blocking on stage. They also learnt the importance of drama activities and how they help improves stage management and coordination while performing on stage. Students were made to feel comfortable followed by an introductory activity in the form of 'Which Fruit Are You?' The next few sessions focused on developing Reactions to various Actions performed by the facilitator for example a dramatic and strong reaction to the action of being slapped or hot water being thrown on your face or tasting a sour lemon, etc. The students were also made to do a Nukkad Natak on 'How a Democracy Functions, which was co written by students of Grade 8.
